General class structure:

  1. Mastery in mathematics is like working jigsaw puzzles, reading musical scores, or solving a game of clue, etc…  When you understand how all the pieces or clues fit together, you can see, understand, and appreciate the big picture.  Much of this happens in your minds eye.  When you start to see it math starts to make sense and can be enjoyable and a fun challenge.
  2. To work towards this understanding, topics will be approached from a conceptual standpoint.  What do you see/recognize?  How do they relate, how are they different, what does the answer mean or tell you,  what rules, procedures, patterns are common to different or all situations and which ones are unique?  We will spend significant time discussing and explaining topic we cover.
  3. To maximize each students experience and growth classes will be structured according to the ability level of the students attending that session.  During the first two sessions, I will access the ability of the students and adjust the curriculum accordingly.  We may all work together as one group or we may divide up do different activities.  At this time I am not planning on assigning homework other than think and study on what we have gone over that and previous days.  I will reserve the right to adjust this policy as I see a need to.
